Foster

Foster homes are needed for many cats coming in from the community

Foster Policies & Application

Foster Information

We need foster homes!

Paws provides:

  • Food, litter & litter boxes, medicine, wire crates, and other supplies
  • Veterinary care as needed
  • Approved adoptive homes when ready

Foster home responsibilities include:

  • Care for fosters for several weeks to several months
  • Providing an indoor, warm, safe area for fosters away from other pets
  • Daily cleaning and feeding
  • Transporting fosters to and from the shelter for medical checks and adoption days
  • Communicating effectively with the foster or medical team members
  • Medicating as needed
  • Patience, love, & socialization

What You Need to Know

  • Placements are needed for an average of 4 months. We do have some opportunities for shorter placement of 1-2 months for older (5-6 month old) kittens.
  • Our biggest need is for medical fosters, fosters for senior cats, hospice fosters, and fosters able to handle spicy kittens that will socialize them.
  • We do not have a primary foster to adopt program. If you are interested in adopting when you foster, please apply to adopt when you submit a foster application.
  • Fosters are not automatically approved to adopt. Fosters, and their acquaintances, are subject to the same rules for adoption as everyone else.
  • Must be over 18 years old.
  • Even though foster animals are to be kept separate, we require that animals in the home are spayed/neutered and current with vaccines.

Apply to Foster

While everyone hopes to foster pregnant moms and young kittens, those opportunities do not arise as often. Please consider filling out an application to foster older kittens that need care, or an adult needing fostering.
